Three soil erosion risk assessment models, namely, USLE , RUSLE and PESERA were selected to be tested and benchmarked at different scales and different test sites in order to define their relative advantages and disadvantages.

The selection of the three GIS-compatible models was based on the review of the literature and by taking into account the following:

•  the OWS-S User requirements and needs
•  the data requirements of the models, and
•  the data availability in each of the test sites

The first products per test site are presented below.

THE APPLICATION OF THE USLE MODEL IN NORTHERN CHALKIDIKI, GREECE

In order to investigate how changes in vegetation phenology affect the USLE model three soil erosion risk maps were produced (April, August, November).

THE APPLICATION OF THE PESERA MODEL IN CHANIA, CRETE (GREECE)

The data that were used in the application of the PESERA model in Chania were collected within the frame of PESERA, OLIVERO and DESERTLINKS EU-funded research projects.
