Service Portfolio
The Observatory for Spatial Planning generates products and services based on Earth Observation (EO) data,
other geo-spatial as well as socio-economic data contributing to the information needs of spatial planning.
The products and services are generated on European, national and regional level and comprise:
- Indicators & spatial typologies (year 1)
- Urban growth scenarios (year 2)
- Landscape transformation scenarios (year 3)
Observatory Spatial Planning products for project year 1, 2 and 3
The developed tools and products are generated at three spatial levels (1:250.000, 1:100.000 and 1:25.000)
to reflect the information requirements of European, national and sub-national applications. They are installed
at user sites in the third project year for a test, validation and benchmarking phase.

The indicators developed in year one relate to the widely used Drivers-Pressure-State-Impact-Response (DPSIR) framework of the EEA.
The spatial typologies have been produced on the basis of the derived indicators, the underlying land cover data and additional
socio-economic data. The year two and three product deliverables comprise revised indicators and typologies, urban growth
scenarios and landscape transformation scenarios. While the developed indicators serve as an input to the urban
growth scenarios, the typologies are the basis for defining and generating the landscape transformation scenarios.
Indicator product: population density within urbanised areas
Indicator product: degree of urban dispersion
Indicator product: percentage of built-up area of permanently habitable area
On-line Visualisation of Indicator Examples
Examples of developed Indicator datasets covering the regions of "Dresden-Prague", "Algarve", or "Vorarlberg", respectively, can be visualised and explored using GoogleEarth.
